• CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio Introduction: Tmate is the most awaited accessory by many users of SDR radio that can not or will not stay without the VFO knob! With a classical tuning knob, the USB interface and the upgradable software, allows the control of main functions of the various SDR software. Intended mainly to allow the use of SDR software without the need to watch the screen of the PC, or when the screen of the PC is crowded by various programs such as LOG or software for DIGITAL operations or CONTEST. Tmate can also be used, via RS232 & PC, as a armchair tuning unit for ICOM or

• CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio Installation: Copy the folder “Tmate”, that is contained on the CD that you find inside the box, where you want in your HD. This folder contains two subfolders: − Driver − Application (exe, ini file, dll) Connect the USB cable of Tmate to a free USB port of your PC. Windows (VISTA or W7) check for new hardware and asks you where to find information on new hardware. You must indicate the folder "Tmate/Driver" that you just copied into your HD. • CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio Tmate hardware Tmate unit is made in a sturdy metal case, very stable on desktop. It has a metal tuning knob, four function keys and two LED: − the green LED indicates the USB connection between Tmate and PC − the red LED indicates the LOCK of tuning knob (no data send to software) The four function keys has no label, these are displayed on Tmate window software. • CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio Tmate software You must have a valid Vcom configuration on your system to use Tmate with Software Defined Radio as PowerSDR or PERSEUS. You must have your ICOM or Kenwood CAT control cable connected to a serial port of the PC to use Tmate with them. Open the Tmate folder that you just copied into your HD and open the subfolder named “application”. Double click on Tmate.exe. This is the Tmate window at startup The first time you use Tmate, press SETUP to configure the application. Note: SETUP button is available when disconnected only. • CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio Setup CAT Te CAT tab where you configure the CAT connection between Tmate and radio or SDR software. First the radio model: Icom, Kenwood, PowerSDR or PERSEUS as display. Select the COM port where the radio (Icom or Kenwood) is connected or the Vcom that pair with the Vcom of PowerSDR or PERSEUS, and the other parameters for a correct connection. You can check the connection with “Check”: this routine try to connect with the radio and returns “ok” or “error”. • CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio Sharing Vcom As mentioned before, we recommend using VSPE (Virtual Serial Port Emulator by Eterlogic) as manager for the serial ports necessary in the operation and the integration of Tmate in your radio station. One of the most interesting features of VSPE is the management of serial port shared by multiple applications; this shared port is called “splitter”. COM8 (Virtual splitter device) the port used by Tmate and N1MM, it is COM7 splitted for many applications. COM1 (real device) redirected to COM8 for linear amplifier connection. • CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio VSPE example of configuration with PERSEUS This is a simple VSPE configuration file for PERSEUS COM10 (Virtual connector device): the port of PERSEUS COM11 (Virtual splitter device): the port for Tmate and any other software you want interface with PERSEUS, as BobCAT, HRD, ecc ecc. • CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio VSPE example of configuration with normal radio This is a VSPE configuration file for a traditional radio as Icom or Kenwood COM7 (Virtual splitter device): this port splits a real COM1 (the port of PC where is connected your transceiver with RS232 cable) for share the CAT with Tmate and any other application you need. You can connect to COM7 applications as Tmate, HRD, and any other that needs CAT. Tmate User Guide V1.0 – V1.1 Page 13 10/1/2009

• WoodBoxRadio Troubleshooting This window appears if there is a problem of connection between Tmate and your radio or SDR. Close the connection pressing START, check COM or Vcom port number, baudrate and other parameters. Press START again, if the problem is not solved, try to switch from “active” or “passive” synch mode. (see page 7 of this User guide)

• CAT Tmate, WoodBoxRadio V1.1 release The V1.1 release (1 Oct. 2009) is more stable, with some bugs fixed and with new COM and CAT engines. This version has been developed to improve the use by PowerSDR. In Setup/System, there is an “extended functions” button which is available only for PowerSDR, if selected with other radio as PERSEUS or Icom and Kenwood, it has no effect.
