• JVC XV-S60, Getting started 15 Getting started English You can enjoy high picture quality by connecting the unit’s COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks to the COMPONENT VIDEO IN jacks of your TV with the video cables. The unit supports the Progressive scan system as well as the conventional Interlace scan system. If your television or monitor supports the progressive video input, you can enjoy a high quality picture by making the Progressive scan mode active. How to make the Progressive scan mode active Press and hold down the VFP - PROGRESSIVE SCAN button for a few seconds. T

The on-screen display appears on the TV screen. 2 Use CURSOR 5/∞ or SUBTITLE to move to [SUBTITLE]. 3 Use CURSOR 2/3 or SUBTITLE to select the desired subtitle. Note that this setting affects only the output signal from the ANALOG AUDIO output jacks when playing back a DVD VIDEO disc recorded with surround multichannel audio. •Lt/Rt Should be selected when you enjoy multichannel surround audio by connecting the unit’s ANALOG AUDIO output to a surround decoder. •L 0 /R

Each time you press REPEAT, the repeat mode toggles among all track repeat, current track repeat and off. You can see the selected mode by icons in the display window on the front panel as below. : Repeats the current group on the disc. : Repeats the current track. When you insert such a disc and try to play it, the following Parental Lock on-screen display appears on the TV screen, asking you whether you want the parental lock to be temporarily released or not. 1 Use the C URSOR 5 / ∞ to move to [YES], then press ENTER. moves to the PASSWORD field. • JVC XV-S60, Initial settings 46 Initial settings PROGRESSIVE MODE You can select the progressive mode from the following options. •AUTO The unit recognizes the picture type (film or video source) of the current disc according to the disc information. • VIDEO 1 Suitable for playing back a video source disc with static (inactive) pictures. • VIDEO 2 Suitable for playing back a video source disc with dynamic (active) pictures. •FILM Suitable for playing back a film or progressive source disc. •SMART Used to playback a disc containing both video and film source materials. You can select the speed among 2x, 5x, 20x and 60x the normal speed. Pressing 3 returns the unit to normal playback. Method 2 Hold down 4 or ¢. Holding down ¢ advances playback rapidly, while holding down 4 reverses playback rapidly at 4 times the normal speed. Releasing the button returns the unit to normal playback. 7 During playback Press

The display shown on the right is avairable only during Video CD playback. When a Video CD disc is stopped, a display similar to the CD CONTROL display appears. • To bring up the VCD CONTROL display Press ON SCREEN when a Video CD is inserted. The battery compartment is located on the back of the remote control unit. 1 Press down on the point shown by the arrow at the top of the compartment cover, and pull up the cover to open the compartment. 2 Place the two accessory R6P (SUM-3)/AA(15F) batteries in the remote control according to the polarity markings (“ +” and “–” ) inside the compartment and on the batteries. 3 Place the cover over the compartment, and press down lightly. •

• JVC XV-S60, Getting started 20 Getting started The following buttons can be used for operating the TV: To use the CURSOR (CH– , CH+, VOL– , VOL+), TV/VIDEO - CANCEL and numeric buttons for TV control, set the TV - DVD switch to “ TV”. Turns the TV on or off. Switches the TV input mode between TV and VIDEO. Selects the TV channels directry. *For some TVs, pressing “ +10” functions as the “ 100+,” while“ 10” functions as the ENTER button if your TV requires pressing the Enter button after selecting a channel number. Mutes the TV sound. Changes the TV channels. Adjusts the TV volume. NOTES • The remote control unit is initially set operating a JVC TV. �

The unit memorizes the interrupted position. • If you interrupt playback by pressing 7 and then turn off the power, the memory is not cleared. 7 While the disc you interrupt playback last time is still in the disc tray Press 3.
