NEC NDRV-60, Overview (Continued) About DVD recording otes • This recorder cannot make recordings on CD-R or CD-RW discs. • Our company takes no responsibility for recording fail- ure due to power cuts, defective discs, or damage to the recorder. • Fingerprints and small scratches on a disc can affect playback and/or recording performance. Please take proper care of your discs. Disc types and recording formats, modes, and settings This recorder can play five different kinds of DVD disc: pre-recorded DVD-Video discs, DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW and DVD+R discs. This name appears when you load the disc and when you display disc information on-screen. • The disc name can be up to 32 characters long. • For discs formatted on a different Recorder, you will see only a limited character set. 11 Follow steps 1-3 as shown Disc Initialize on page 26. 22 Use v / V to select the Disc Label option. 33 Press B to move to the third level. NEC NDRV-60, Basic Recording (Continued) Copying from DVD to VCR You can copy the contents of a DVD to a VHS tape using the DUBBING (or DUB) button. ote If the DVD (or Discs) you are attempting to copy is copy protected, you will not be able to copy the disc. It is not permitted to copy Macrovision encoded DVDs (or Discs). 11 Insert a VHS Tape Insert a blank VHS video tape into the VCR deck. 22 Insert a Disc Insert the disc you wish to copy in the DVD deck and close the disc tray. 33 Select DVD mode by pressing DVD on the remote control or pressing DVD/VCR on the front panel. 44 Find the place on the DVD (or Disc) from which you want to start recording using the PLAY
NEC NDRV-60, 10 Overview (Continued) Precautions Handling the unit When shipping the unit The original shipping carton and packing materials come in handy. For maximum protection, re-pack the unit as it was originally packaged at the factory. When setting up the unit The picture and sound of a nearby TV, VCR, or radio may be distorted during playback. In this case, position the unit away from the TV, VCR, or radio, or turn off the unit after removing the disc. NEC NDRV-60, 25 RECORD Disc Record Mode You can set the picture quality for DVD recording; XP (High Quality), SP (Standard Quality), LP (Low Quality), EP (Extend Quality). 11 Press SETUP. Some DVDs require specific operation or allow only limited operation during playback. When this occurs, the symbol appears on the TV screen, indi- cating that the operation is not permitted by the Recorder or is not available on the disc. NEC NDRV-60, HOOKUP 15 Connections ips Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect the recorder. Use only one of the connections described below. Please refer to the manuals of your TV, VCR, Stereo System or other devices as necessary to make the best connections. Caution – Make sure the Recorder is connected directly to the TV. Tune the TV to the correct video input channel. – Do not connect the Recorder’s AUDIO OUT jack to the phono in jack (record deck) of your audio system. – Do not connect your Recorder via your VCR. NEC NDRV-60, 38 Viewing a JPEG File The recorder can play discs with JPEG files. Before playing JPEG recordings, read “Notes on JPEG Recordings” at right. 11 Insert a disc and close the tray. The Photo menu appears on the TV screen. 22 Use vVbB to select a folder, then press ENTER. Open icon is highlighted on the left side of the menu. 33 Press ENTER. Names can be up to 32 characters long. 11 On the Title List menu, use vVbBto choose the title you want to name then press ENTER. Keyboard menu appears. e.g., If you select “Title Name” on Title List-Original menu. 33 Enter a name for the title. Use vVbBto select a character then press ENTER to confirm your selection. NEC NDRV-60, 40 Basic Recording Basic Recording from a TV Follow the instructions below to record a TV program. Recording starts immediately and continues until the disc or tape is full or you stop the recording. 11 Switch on the Recorder, select the device (VCR or DVD) for Recording and load a recordable disc or tape. Also make sure that the TV input is set to this recorder. If you load a completely blank DVD-RW disc, Disc initial- ize menu will appear, to select a desired Recording Mode to initialize the disc (See page 26). 22 Set a recording mode as necessary by pressing REC MODE repeated

The recorder will now go into PAUSE mode. 2 Press BACKWARD (m) or FORWARD(M) during PAUSE mode.
