DeskBook B165, 75 Frequently-asked questions This is a list of possible situations that may arise during the use of your computer, and it gives easy answers and solutions to these questions. DeskBook B165, 1 Getting familiar with your computer16 Integrated numeric keypad The keyboard has an integrated numeric keypad which functions like a desktop numeric keypad. It is located on the right side of the keyboard. Windows keys The keyboard has two keys that perform Windows-specific functions. Key Description Windows logo key Start button. Combinations with this key perform special functions. DeskBook B165, 2 Peripherals and options48 Hard disk To upgrade the hard disk, follow the instructions below: 1. Follow the instructions in “Opening the computer” on page 44. 2. Disconnect the power connector and signal cable (1); lift the four rubber locks holding the hard disk (2); slide out and lift up the old hard disk as shown in the illustration below (3, 4). 3. Playing DVD movies To play DVD movies in your computer, just insert the DVD disc into the drive and the DVD movie will automatically play after a few seconds. Important! When you launch the DVD player for the first time, the program asks you to input the region code. DVD discs are divided into 6 regions. Once your DVD drive is set to a region code, it will play DVD discs of that region only. You can set the region code a maximum of five times (including the first time), after which the last region code set will remain permane

Lift up the lock for the signal connector (1); carefully insert the signal cable into the connector (2) and push the lock down to secure the cable (3); replace the optical/floppy module (4) and slide it in until it click into place (5). 6. Follow the instruction in “Closing the computer” on page 45 to close the computer. Floppy drive To remove and install the floppy drive, follow the instructions below: 1. DeskBook B165, vii 3. Slide the display cover latch to the left (1) and open the display (2) to a comfortable viewing angle. Press and release the power switch (3) to turn on the power. The POST (power-on self-test) routine executes and Windows begins loading. Note: To turn off the power, use the Windows Turn Off command to shut down the computer. If you are unable to shut down your computer normally, press and hold the power switch for more than four seconds to turn off the computer. If you turn off the computer and want to turn it on again, wait at least two seconds before powering up. Caution: The computer is meant to be used on a table or a desk. Do not place the
69 BIOS Utility The BIOS Utility is a hardware configuration program built into your computer’s BIOS (basic input/output system). Your computer is already properly configured and optimized, and you do not need to run this utility. However, if you encounter configuration problems, you may need to run it. DeskBook B165, 79 HARD DISK INSTALL FAILURE Cannot find or initialize the hard drive controller or the drive. Make sure the controller is installed correctly. If no hard drives are installed, be sure the Hard Drive selection in Setup is set to NONE. Hard disk(s) diagnosis fail The system may run specific disk diagnostic routines. This message appears if one or more hard disks return an error when the diagnostics run. Keyboard error or no keyboard present Cannot initialize the keyboard.
